ALT-WHITE:
A Tongue and Cheek Search for Trump’s China
Exhibition Concept
In 1817, James Monroe ordered the first dinner service created specifically for official use by an American President. While not every President has commissioned a new set, the tradition of “State China” continued through the Obama Administration. This exhibition explores the individual expression of 100 contemporary American artists: what would happen if we got to design Trump's china?
Today we live in the crosscurrents, an environment charged with politics and culture. Responding to this particular historic moment, Alt-White is satirical approach to designing the White House china where up to 100 artists will design a presidential dinner plate. This exhibition is intended to reflect divergent views and personal reactions to the reality of a Trump administration.
By donating their work, artists will give action to their concerns. We hope this exhibition is a channel of catharsis and an opportunity to facilitate conversation. All work will be donated to be sold at the end of the exhibit with proceeds going to a charitable organization(s.)
